This collection covers 42 armour objects from the 1550s, delivered across 164 images in 30 ZIP assets. The 1550s spans the reigns of Edward VI and Mary I — a period of political turbulence that nonetheless saw continued production of high-quality armour in England and imports from the great Continental workshops.
The mid-Tudor period is relatively under-studied compared to the Henrician and Elizabethan eras on either side of it, yet the armour produced in this decade reflects important transitions in both technology and taste — shifting from the maximilian aesthetic toward the plainer forms that would dominate late 16th-century armour.
